It’s not easy to earn good money by helping others. Many people help others selflessly, but it can be difficult to get paid for it, especially in times when it’s hard to get money. Not only is there a stigma attached to people wanting to get paid for their good deeds, but it’s often difficult to find the right opportunity that fits your skills and available time. Fortunately, there are ways you can help people and get paid for it at the same time.
Many Charities Offer Paid Jobs
To get started, you first need to figure out what kind of work you want to do. The best way to do this is to try it out and work for free, especially if you don’t have any qualifications or experience yet. You can choose from the following options:
Volunteer with a charity – Most charities offer volunteering opportunities that are free for those who want to give back. If you have the time and desire to help out, this option is one of the best ways for someone who’s new to earning money by helping others.
Work as a fundraiser or intern – nonprofits often need volunteers who have fundraising experience or who’re willing to help with administrative tasks like data entry and filing.
Charities Don’t Always Have to Be Highly Skilled
Sometimes charities have extra income to hire a virtual assistant. Virtual assistants are ideal for charities on a budget because they aren’t as expensive as hiring a full-time employee. Social media account managers, freelance writers, or graphic design professionals, are also often sought after. These types of remote work won’t get you far at first, but they can help you earn some extra money. Extra cash is always better than nothing, it’s an extra income and it can help you build a relationship.
Become a Nurse
Nursing is a great way to help others. You provide medical care to sick or injured people, and it can be very rewarding.
Nurses are highly skilled professionals who make sure people stay healthy. They care for patients in hospitals, nursing homes, doctors’ offices, and other places where people receive medical treatment.
Becoming a nurse is a great way to make a difference every day by providing care and support to patients and their families.
To Become a Nurse, You Must Study, Take Exams, Get a License, and Work in Hospitals for Several Years Before Finding Employment as a Nurse
Nurses must be patient because they spend most of their time listening carefully to what people tell them before deciding how best to help them.
Nurses need to be good listeners, as they often deal with many patients, all of whom have different physical ailments or mental health problems. The salary isn’t very high and the nurses I know often struggle to save money, but if you’re passionate about helping others, this could be a great career path.
You Can Work in a Nursing Home as an Aide
If you want to help people but aren’t a doctor or nurse, working in a nursing home is another option. You could assist the staff already working there with their daily tasks, such as giving medications and serving meals. You could also help them clean up after meals and bathe them. Finally, you could help them with mobility issues by pushing them in wheelchairs or helping them get dressed.
If you want to work in a nursing home, it’s important that you can communicate well with the residents of the facility. This means that you have good communication skills and are patient enough to deal with any problems that may arise.
The best candidates for this job are those who already have experience working with the elderly or in the medical field. It’s also important that you enjoy helping others, as this can sometimes be a stressful environment.
Raise Awareness Through Blogging and Social Media
If you want to keep your freedom, you can raise awareness for your cause. Blogging is a great way to earn a passive income, however, it’s a competitive world and it requires writing and technical skills.
If you have experience with online surveys, social media, affiliate marketing, or other online businesses, you probably know that making money online isn’t easy and that finding potential clients can be a nightmare – so imagine what it’s like when it comes to getting people’s attention for charity.
There’s no ultimate guide or easy way to do this. Blogging requires not only time but also some investment (ex: domain names, apps, etc.).
Some choose to do Tik Tok or YouTube or even podcasts, others try to make money as Amazon affiliates and manage to earn extra income through affiliate marketing, but this is also very competitive and I’d say it’s a full-time job that can take a long time, with no guarantee of success. Also, affiliate marketing requires you to take more than one online course.
If you decide to go this route, I can tell you right now that you’re not choosing the easiest way to make an impact unless you have the right contacts to teach you and the patience to learn all the necessary technical skills.
Become a Therapist
If you have a passion for helping people, becoming a therapist could be the perfect option for you. You can have your own practice and set your own hours and work location. This means you can help people while still spending time with friends and family.
You Can Specialize in Mental Health, Emotional Health, Trauma, Etc. There Are No Limits to What You Can Learn!
Unlike learning to be a life coach, the challenge is that becoming a therapist can take a long time and be very expensive. It’s a long-term commitment unless you have money to just try it out, but if that were the case, you probably wouldn’t be reading this article.
However, I know a person who decided to study again to become a therapist and she doesn’t regret spending years learning the skill, but she’s passionate about it and I’ve no doubt that she’ll be a great therapist.
You Can Make a Difference by Teaching
Another way you can make a difference is by teaching. Teachers have a huge impact on how students will develop and shape our world in the future. I even wrote an article about it (see related articles at the bottom of the page). There are two ways to become a teacher: The academic path, which requires you to attend a college, can be very expensive. Or you can teach English or another language if you speak multiple languages.
A TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) online course takes about 12 weeks, and you can even get your certificate online these days! Some people choose this career path as a side hustle, for others it’s not just a side hustle idea, it’s their full-time job.
There’s usually no good money to be made teaching a foreign language unless you’re teaching in an emerging country where it’s a luxury to hire a foreigner, and because life is cheaper there, you can have a good quality of life.
Become a Social Worker
If you have a passion for helping others, social work is a great career choice. You can work with people from all walks of life, from children and families to the elderly and people with disabilities.
Social Workers Help People With Mental Health Problems, Drug and Alcohol Addiction, Homelessness, and Social Security
They’re also an important source of help for people who need it most. They provide services to children, families, individuals, and groups in a variety of settings.
Social work, however, isn’t just about helping people with their problems, but also about preventing them from happening in the first place. They often help communities develop programs to prevent abuse and neglect, assist families with advice on how to nurture their children, and counsel people with disabilities on how to better participate in society.
If you’re interested in helping people with a variety of social problems, becoming a social worker could be right for you.
Work for the UN
The United Nations is the largest international organization in the world, with 193 member states. The UN promotes peace and security through its many projects, including food aid and emergency relief for natural disasters such as earthquakes.
To work for the UN, you can volunteer as an international community service (ICG) volunteer, which means working in a designated UN office.
You Can Also Choose to Become an Intern or Contract Worker for the Organization
As a contract worker, you’ll work with other organizations that have partnered with the UN to carry out their projects.
Working at the UN usually requires qualifications and experience (depending on the field), and you’ll need to provide many references from previous employers and so on.
There Are Many Ways to Earn Money While You Help Other People
There are many ways to make money on the side while helping other people, but to make good money full time can be a real challenge and very competitive.
In this article, I’ve mentioned a few obvious ways, but there are many more. You can even do something for society in the private sector (and usually get paid more), for example, many companies now have a CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) department. Depending on your expertise, CSR ranges from HR (e.g. diversity) to finance (e.g. accounting for sustainability reports, auditing charities). You can also start a small business and donate a portion of your profits or sell products that support a cause you believe in.
Apply for a Paid Job
It’s important that you do it for passion and not for the money. Recruiters aren’t blind and can usually tell the difference between someone who’s doing it for the right reason and someone who’s only interested in a paid position or wants a good profile.
If You’re Not Doing It for the Right Reason, You’re Going to Struggle With Your Mission Because There’s Nothing Worse Than Having to Work for Something You Don’t Even Believe In
I’d recommend that you start volunteering first. If you feel like it’s not right for you, at least you’ve tried it before investing your time and energy into something that may not work out as planned. Plus, most people who get paid positions have had their first experience with volunteering, so it’s always worth giving it a try!
Be Authentic and Honest
If you’re looking for a job that gives you meaning and purpose, one of the best ways to find it’s to help others.
Here are some tips on how you can find paid work helping others:
Speaking From the Heart
In many professions, speaking from the heart can be seen as a weakness, but when it comes to showing that you’re committed to a cause, having your heart in the right place can make a big difference when applying for this type of paid work. Of course, don’t overdo it and start crying during your interview. What I mean is that you should explain why you really care about the cause. You can do this by sharing an example where something happened in your life that changed your perspective on the issue – or how volunteering for an organization made you realize how much good could be done if more people got involved.
Put Your Skills to the Test
Volunteering not only shows that you’re good, but also that you care about making a difference in people’s lives. Volunteering can also give you valuable experience if you later find that it’s not your passion – at least now you’ve gained practical experience!
